Rep. Frank J. Mrvan, who represents Indiana’s 1st district in the U.S. Congress, recently posted a series of messages on his social media account addressing the ongoing government shutdown and its causes, as well as extending wishes for Yom Kippur to his constituents.
On October 1, 2025, Mrvan emphasized his role on the House Appropriations Committee, stating: "I serve on the House Appropriations Committee because that is where bipartisan conversations occur, and I stand ready to work across the aisle to keep our government open, lower costs, expand access to health care, and strengthen our communities."
In a subsequent post on the same day, he addressed the shutdown directly: "This shutdown is the result of the Republican Majority’s inability to govern, and because they are unable to agree among themselves and unwilling to compromise with Democrats. Their dysfunction will harm our economy and hardworking Americans, who do not have the luxury of simply"
The following day, October 2, Mrvan turned his attention to community observances by offering well-wishes for Yom Kippur: "Wishing everyone observing Yom Kippur in Northwest Indiana a meaningful time of reflection and renewal."
Frank J. Mrvan has served as U.S. Representative for Indiana’s 1st District since 2021 after succeeding Pete Visclosky. Before joining Congress, he was part of the North Township Board of Trustees from 2005 until 2021. Born in Hammond in 1969 and currently residing in Highland at age 54, Mrvan graduated from Ball State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1992.
