Women’s Volleyball goes 1-1 at UHSP Tri-Meet
After a couple of tough CCAC losses, the Calumet College Women's Volleyball team bounced back, going 1-1 at the University of Health Sciences & Pharmacy Tri-Meet with Crowley's Ridge.
CCSJ 3, Crowley's Ridge 0 (25-17,25-15,25-14)
The Crimson Wave started off the first set slowly, but after four services from Rebecca Larios, the Wave had a four-point lead throughout the match and finished with a 25-17 set win. In set two, the Wave took a commanding lead from the start with multiple serves from Marina Lopez and Jenine Boyles to lead 10-3. Crowley's Ridge started to close the gap, but a service streak from Maria Elena Castorena grew CCSJ's lead and led to a 25-15 win. The third and final set had another strong Crimson Wave lead of up to 9 points to win 25-14 and shutout Crowley's Ridge with a 3-0 match win.
Castorena led the Wave with 10 kills and 11 digs. Makayla Watts had 7 kills with 2 digs and 2 blocks. Sincere Northern had 6 kills with a service ace, 2 digs, and 3 blocks. Rebecca Larios had 32 assists, 3 kills, 11 digs, and 1 block.
UHSP 3, CCSJ 2 (23-25,23-25,25-11,25-12,15-12)
The Crimson Wave had a close battle with UHSP in the first and second sets, ultimately winning 25-23 in both sets for a 2-0 lead. UHSP jumped ahead of the Wave and took a commanding lead that CCSJ couldn't catch up to, winning the third and fourth sets 25-11 and 25-12, forcing a fifth set. In set 5, the Crimson Wave scored first but UHSP started gaining a lead quickly and just snuck by the Wave for a 15-12.
Diana Ortuno led the Wave with 12 kills adn 4 digs and Jenine Boyles was right behind with 8 kills, 8 digs, and 2 blocks. Rebecca Larios had 35 assists and 12 digs and Marina Lopez had 4 service aces, 3 kills, and 13 digs.
What's Next
Crimson Wave Women's Volleyball has a busy week traveling to Roosevelt Tuesday, September 27th for their first CCAC match of the week, back in Whiting at The Ritt on Thursday, September 29th to host St. Xavier at 7 PM, and away again on Saturday, October 1st at Trinity International.
