DII Hockey sweeps Olivet Nazarene in highly contested battles

The Purdue Northwest ACHA D3 Hockey team won both games of their weekend series against Olivet Nazarene. Winning Game 1 on Friday night, 3-2, and Game 2 on Saturday evening, 5-3.

The Basics

Records: Purdue Northwest (8-6, 3-1), Western Michigan (2-10)

Location: The Kube - Hammond, Ind.

Attendance: 350

Game 1 

Inside The Numbers

Senior Cole Bocock led Purdue Northwest with two goals.

Freshman Joey Ansari also contributed with a goal and an assist.

Sophomore Brendan Kerrick (St. John, Ind./Lake Central HS) and Freshman Anthony Caserta (Perth, Ontario/Perth District Collegiate Institute) both dished out an assist.

Senior Zander Zafiro () played all 60 minutes in goal for the Pride and made 25 saves.

Roan Burke led Olivet Nazarene with a goal and an assist.

Connor Nugent played all 60 minutes in goal for Olivet Nazarene and had 45 saves.

The Breakdown

The Pride scored the first goal of the game in the first period from Bocock to take a 1-0 lead after one.

Purdue Northwest ended period one trailing by one goal. As Madsen and Burke of Olivet Nazarene each netted a goal in period 1.

The Pride would tie the game 2-2 in period 2 with a power play goal from Bocock.

In the final few minutes of period three Ansari would net a go-ahead goal for the Pride to secure the victory. 

Game 2

Inside The Numbers

Freshman Jacob Lee () and Freshman Brett Bandstra () led The Pride each with a goal and an assist.

Freshman Nick Anderson (), Junior Luke Eenigenburg (Munster, Ind./Munster HS), and Freshman Cody Graniczny () each had a goal.

Freshman Anthony Caserta (Perth, Ontario/Perth District Collegiate Institute) and Luke Hoffman () each dished out an assist.

Junior Vincent DiDonato (Dyer, Ind./Lake Central HS) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Pride and made 26 saves.

Noah Domagalski led Olivet Nazarene with two goals.

Curran Allison played all 60 minutes in goal for Olivet Nazarene and had 49 saves.

 

The Breakdown

Bandstra netted The Prides first goal in period one to tie the game 1-1 going into period two.

Each team exploded offensively in period two with Olivet Nazarene netting two goals and The Pride scoring three. Lee, Anderson, and Eenigenburg each netted a goal in period two for The Pride.

In period three Olivet Nazarene would tie the game with an early goal but The Pride would answer right back with a goal from Graniczny to close out the game.

Up Next

The Pride next hit the road to take on Purdue in a weekend series. Game one is set for Friday, December 2 at 6:30 p.m. in Indianapolis, Indiana.
