Women's Basketball comeback falls just short at Saginaw Valley State

The Purdue Northwest women's basketball teams fourth quarter surge was not enough to get past Saginaw Valley State as the comeback fell just short on Sunday afternoon, 54-53.

The Basics

•    Records: Purdue Northwest (4-7,0-3), Saginaw Valley State (7-3,2-1)

•    Location: James E. O'Neal Jr. Arena - Saginaw, Mich.

•    Attendance: 174

Inside The Numbers

•    Junior Dash Shaw (Crown Point, Ind./Crown Point) led Purdue Northwest with a game-high 27 points going 12-of-20 from the field and grabbing five rebounds.

•    Junior Mercedes Simmons (Crystal Falls, Mich./Forest Park) added 12 points and snatched six rebounds.

•    Junior Tadriana Heard (Justice, Ill./Argo) chipped in seven points during the contest.

•    The Pride finished the game shooting 22-of-51 (43.1%) from the floor and went 2-of-13 (15.4%) from behind the arc.

•    Tori DePerry led Saginaw Valley State scoring 22 points and tallied nine rebounds.

•    The Cardinals ended the contest going 20-of-60 (33.3%) from the field and went 5-of-10 (50.0%) from deep.

The Breakdown

•    Both team battled to a tight, high scoring first period that saw Saginaw Valley State have a slight 20-16 lead.

•    The Cardinals came out shooting in the second period and saw their largest lead of the game, 37-19, with less then five minutes remaining.

•    The Pride went on a 11-2 run cut their deficit to single digits and head into halftime down 39-30.

•    Both continue to battle back-and-forth in the third period, but still saw the Cardinals hold a 50-41 lead heading into the fourth.

•    The Pride had a massive 12-4 fourth period but came up just short in the end, 54-53.

•    The Pride next hit the road once again when take on Quincy University on Friday, December 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. central time in Chicago, Illinois.
