Calumet College of St. Joseph Athletics recently issued the following announcement.
10 straight wins for Men’s Volleyball
Tuesday, the Calumet College Men's Volleyball team traveled to Davenport, Iowa for their second match against St. Ambrose. In the last meeting, the Crimson Wave took the Fighting Bees to five sets but were defeated 3-2. After coming off a big win against Cardinal Strich, the Wave were looking to continue their 9 game win streak and get the win against St. Ambrose. The Crimson Wave succeeded in keeping the win streak alive with a big 3-0 win over St. Ambrose, moving their CCAC record to 7-3 and winning 10 straight games.
In the first set, the Crimson Wave started off strong against the Fighting Bees, getting a lead early but had SAU right behind them. The Crimson Wave's 6 errors gave St. Ambrose a fighting chance at the set, but with 16 kills the Wave finished the set strong with a 25-22 win. Set 2 was a similar story as the Crimson Wave took an early lead, but errors tied the match up. From there each team went point-for-point until kills by Pedro Castillo and Francis Hauze gave the Wave their lead and a 26-24 set 2 win. In the third and final set, the Crimson Wave started off with a big lead against the Fighting Bees and used that momentum to dominate in the final set, resulting in a 25-16 win for the Crimson Wave.
Francis Hauze led the way for the Crimson Wave with 19 kills, 2 service aces, and just 4 errors. Gianluca Righetto followed close behind with 10 kills and 2 blocks. Jacob Moen had 41 assists with 4 digs.
The Crimson Wave have their final home game on Thursday at 7 PM against #8 St. Xavier.
