Calumet College of St. Joseph Athletics recently issued the following announcement.

Softball splits with Judson

The Calumet College Softball team hosted Judson on Thursday for their second conference doubleheader of the week. The Crimson Wave had a strong showing in the first game, pulling together 12 hits to win Game 1 8-4. In Game 2, the Crimson Wave scored big, but errors got the best of them, giving the Eagles a chance to come back and win 12-9.

Game 1 - CCSJ 8, Judson 4

Josselline Monge started in the circle for the Crimson Wave, going the full 7 innings with 6 strikeouts and giving up 7 hits, 2 earned runs, and 1 HBP.

The Crimson Wave offense started off strong, scoring two runs in the 1st inning when Kayla Kirmani scored on a wild pitch and Kylee Slack hit a homerun. The Wave scored again in the bottom of the 2nd inning off of Kirmani's single RBI. Judson scored their first run in the top of the 3rd inning as the Wave's bats went silent until the 5th inning when Grace Elrod hit a 3-run Homerun to take their lead to 6-1. The Eagles countered, scoring 2 runs in the top of the 6th inning, but the Wave increased their lead after an RBI from Adelina Staden and Elrod scored to 8 and secure their 8-4 win.

Slack went 2-3 with a Homerun and RBI and 2 runs scored. Elrod also went 2-3 with 3 RBIs, a Homerun and a walk.

Game 2 - CCSJ 9, Judson 12

Roxanne Ines was the starting pitcher for Game 2 and went 5.2 innings with 4 strikeouts, giving up 7 hits, 3 earned runs, and 3 walks. Judson scored 1 run in the 1st innings, but the Crimson Wave started off the second game strong, scoring 1 run in the 1st inning and then 6 in the 2nd inning. The bottom of the 2nd inning started with Priscilla Sneiw scoring off of Ryan Regnier's single, Tiffanie Brieno scored when Kirmani walked, Kirmani, Ines, and Regnier scored off of Slack's double, and Slack scored off of Elrod's sac bunt.

In the 3rd inning, Judson scored and CCSJ scored, brining the Wave's lead to 9-2. The 4th inning, an error and passed ball by the Wave gave the Eagles the opportunity to put runners in scoring position then score 2 off a single and sac fly to bring the score up to 9-4. Judson led off the 6th inning with a single, but the Wave quickly got 2 outs. Two passed balls put a runner at 3rd base, a single by Judson put them on the board, and another single continued the inning. Kylee Bunnell went in to pitch for the Wave, but a couple of walks and passed balls scored 2 more Eagles runs, brining the score to 9-7. Kenzie Lanman came in to pitch for the Wave, but a single RBI, a walk, and another single RBI brought the game to 10-9 going into the bottom of the 6th inning. The Wave couldn't quite string enough hits together in the bottom of the 6th inning. In the top of the 7th inning, Judson started off with a single, a fielder's choice, and another single to get runners at 1st and 2nd with 1 out. Monge went to the mound for Lanman, but an Eagles double scored 1 run and a single scored another run brining the final score to 12-9.

Alex Navarro went 2-4 with 1 RBI and a stolen base, Slack went 1-3 with 4 RBIs, a double, a stolen base, and 1 walk, Ines went 2-5 with a stolen base, and 2 runs scored.
