IU Northwest School of the Arts announces spring performing arts season

Indiana University Northwest School of the Arts is pleased to announce the forthcoming spring performing theatre season.

Productions will include Everybody, a play by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins; a staged reading of Augusta and Noble, a collaborative project between the Performing Arts and Modern Languages departments; and The Golden Hour, a new play written and directed by graduating senior Esperanza Flores.

All performances will take place on the IU Northwest campus in the Arts and Sciences Building at 3415 Broadway. Theatre spaces are located on the second floor.

Everybody

Everybody is a 2017 adaptation of the 15th-century morality play Everyman. This irreverent modern riff on a morality play takes us on a journey through life’s greatest mystery—the meaning of living. The five performances will take place on the Arts and Sciences Mainstage.

Augusta and Noble

As part of a unique collaborative project, the departments of Modern Languages and Performing Arts will present a staged reading of Augusta and Noble, a play by Chicago playwright Carlos Murillo and directed by Chicago Latine director and educator Ismael Lara Jr.

The play follows the experience of a young girl of Mexican descent who’s living in Chicago, navigating school, family and identity. The reading will take place on the Arts and Sciences Mainstage. It will be free and open to the public.

The Golden Hour

The Golden Hour is the story of Rene’, a Chicano teenager, coming to terms with her family, identity and independence. Three performances will take place in the Arts and Sciences Studio Theatre. These performances will be free and open to the public.

• Friday, April 21 • 7:30 p.m.
