The City of Hammond, Indiana is soliciting business partners for application to the US Department of Transportation’s Charging and Fueling Infrastructure (CFI) Discretionary Grant Program by June 7, 2023. Offerings are being received by the Hammond Board of Public Works and Safety until 4:00 pm Central Time. The application seeks to construct at least six (6) new rapid charging electric vehicle charging stations throughout the City. Locations are yet to be determined.

“The City is uniquely positioned on Interstate 80/94 approaching the City of Chicago from the east serving 200,000 vehicles per day,” said Mayor Thomas M. McDermott, Jr. “Being on Indiana’s primary fuel corridor places Hammond in an area with countless possibilities to serve environmentally-friendly responsible drivers as well as our Justice40 community,” McDermott said. McDermott added “we reached out to our electric service provider and partner, the Northern Indiana Public Service Company (NIPSCO), and they are prepared for our rollout of EV stations.”
