Washington, DC – On May 31, 2023, Congressman Frank J. Mrvan released the following statement in support of bipartisan legislation to prevent a default.
A video of the Congressman delivering the statement on the House floor is available here, and the full statement as prepared for delivery is below.
“I rise today in support of this bipartisan and compromise legislation that will prevent an economic catastrophe from occurring in our nation.
“I ran for Congress in order to solve problems, and the legislation before us does just that. A default would jeopardize seniors and the Medicare and Social Security benefits they have earned and depend upon. A default would jeopardize our numerous successes from the 117th Congress, including transformational investments in our economy, our transportation infrastructure, our steel and manufacturing base, and our dedicated public servants, including teachers and public safety officers.
“Of particular importance as well is the inclusion of specific mandatory funds to enact veteran health benefits under the Honoring Our PACT Act and provide resources for the Toxic Exposures Fund. Following Memorial Day weekend, I am proud that the passage of today’s legislation will confirm to our veterans they will have access to world-class health care.
“This bipartisan agreement honors our commitment to solve problems in support of workers, teachers, first responders, seniors, and veterans. I appreciate the dedicated work of all of my colleagues and the members of the Administration to reach this compromise and encourage all of my colleagues to join me in supporting it.”
