Devonte Hodge, 32, of Gary, Indiana, has been convicted of conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances (cocaine and 100 grams of heroin) and using a firearm to commit murder. The verdict follows a six-day jury trial overseen by United States District Court Judge Philip P. Simon, as announced by United States Attorney Clifford D. Johnson.

Hodge is scheduled for sentencing on December 5, 2024. The specific sentence will be determined by the District Court Judge after considering federal statutes and the United States Sentencing Guidelines.

The case was investigated by the FBI/GRIT Task Force and the ATF/HIDTA Task Force, with assistance from several local law enforcement agencies including the Hobart Police Department, Indiana State Police, Lake County Sheriff’s Department, Gary Police Department, Kokomo Police Department, and Lake County Prosecutor’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys David J. Nozick and Joel Mathur are handling the prosecution.

This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that unites various levels of law enforcement with communities to reduce violent crime and gun violence. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy to enhance PSN based on principles such as fostering community trust and legitimacy, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
